Hispanic Inclusion and Cultural Competency in West Michigan

West Michigan has seen a steadily increasing influx of Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals who are looking to connect with businesses, healthcare providers, educators and social workers. As young professionals, we cannot ignore the effects that this substantial increase in cultural, economic and social influence has had across the nation.

Cultural competency education and communicating with the LEP population in a language they can understand is very important.  El Centro Translations at the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan provides interpreting and translation services and educational opportunities that will help English speakers reach out to LEP individuals. We know that companies, organizations and service providers derive a lot of business from the LEP population; and we know that the future success of businesses and organizations hinges on their ability to actively reach out to LEP individuals today.

The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Greater Grand Rapids, wants to help you have a successful and satisfying career in the nonprofit sector. This takes a few things: learning opportunities, networking with like-minded people, recognition, and the opportunity to lead alongside colleagues. During the Third Thursday of each month YNPN hosts a Conversation Starter, a peer lead discussion about issues that impact your career and organization.

Currently this event takes place at United Way from 8am until 9:30 am.
