Today is Veteran’s day, and although I am opposed the the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, this doesn’t mean we should forget about the men and women who are fighting over seas for what they believe in. War should never be an option but sometimes it is necessary. Today we should reflect on the men and women serving in the arm forces as well as the reasons why we have put them in harm’s way, and how we can help them once they return home.
I was reading this article from fox news Latino, and I read something interesting. Puerto Rican’s fight in the US army without being able to vote for the President because they are a territory of the US. Now that says something about their patriotism that they are willing to die for this country but unable to vote for the person who can send them to war (I won’t even get into the constitutional legality of this sentence). Aside over coming racism and other form so discrimination these Latino Veteran’s over come many boundaries to server out country.
Lets honor their memory and their effort and consider the heroes on this day and every day. If you have a friend or a relative who is a veteran and would like them highlighted on grlatino.com send me an email at deslava@gmail.com or deslava@grlatino.com. Send a brief description and a photo if possible.
