Lady Gaga Releases New Holiday EP – Analysis
Lady Gaga Releases New Holiday EP | Cambio. ”When I look back on my life it’s not that I don’t want to see things exactly as they happen it’s just that I prefer to remember them in an artistic way, and truthfully the lie of it all is much more honest, because I invented it…and as the artist of that painting I must fill in all the ugly holes and make it beautiful again. It’s not that I’ve been dishonest, it’s just that I loath reality”
Reality and the way we shape the world in our mind is the core of literary theory. Taking events and building around them a more uniform universe that is explained not only through the narrative of words and images but a complete universe that lives outside of reality, a better reality because it can be revisited and recreated.
Most people who first experience Lady Gaga walk away with a feeling of uneasiness, her song lyrics hides a bit of bite, but it is the visuals of her videos that put many on edge. If you take a moment and look through many of the comments on her videos you find a list of people confused by what they mean. The themes in the videos differ in style and impact but they all keep the recreation of memory and space.
So it’s an interesting refresher to see her latest release for the Holidays. It seems that the holidays are something special and it shows in the contrast between her holiday show and what she has produced before. Most of her videos are a power struggle between male and female, the impact you have in Alejandro. The start a stark empty bar filled with men in a Nazi-BDSM-biker outfits moving towards the bloodied hard bashed in with a nail give way to men in hooker stocking wearing designer heels.
It’s just that taking an uncomfortable ugly memory rebuilding it and changing it into something manageable, tangible that she is able to grasp. The layers upon which Lady Gaga builds make it memorizing because it plays with some many roles we take for granted, the strong dominate male wearing heels or being tied up like a puppet, men chiseled, muscular with a hint of lipstick. Just watch the videos without sound and pay attention to what is moving, and you have the tension building there.
In contrast holidays are beautiful and even if they are not the best of memory as Lady Gaga goes on to show memories can be change and recreated. It isn’t a lie, and she isn’t fake as many would say because she doesn’t believe in reality she believes in what she creates and that may not necessarily be the truth but it’s not lie make things as you want them to be.
I haven’t had a chance to check yet the A Very Gaga Holiday EP but I’m sure it will be a bit different what she has created because the holidays are always a little more special. Some of the songs included are ’You and I’ and ‘The Edge of Glory,’ along with Gaga’s versions of ‘White Christmas’ and ‘Orange Colored Sky.
