Haiti’s Military Revival Forget food.
Reviving Haiti’s military is not the right step – latimes.com. Haiti is a country that most people associate with two things, poverty and voodoo. After the January 12, 2010 Haiti went from poor to completely homeless. 1.8 million civilians are estimated homeless because of the 7 magnitude earthquake that hit the nation.
After losing their homes and business the entire economy and government collapsed and only foreign aid is keeping the country running. 70% of the government’s budget comes from for aid. So what does Haiti’s government do to control the disease, hunger, poverty and complete destitution of its citizens. Create an Army of course.
President Michel Martelly has decided that he needs more control of the country and has decided to revive the once, notorious Haitian Army. Disbanded 15 years ago for corruption, violation of civil-rights and a coup, this is what is needed. Not schools, police or a working government, it needs a military because nothing makes people feel safe then hiring a bunch of ill paid, uneducated, badly trained soldiers with guns to look out for your safety. Shame on the Haitian government for even proposing such a plan.
