As Small Towns Wither on Plains, Hispanics Come to the Rescue

As Small Towns Wither on Plains, Hispanics Come to the Rescue – NYTimes.com.

An interesting New York Times article that describes the growth of Hispanics in small towns in rural America. At first the locals hesitantly included Hispanics and Latinos into their folds until they realized that the communities were dying without the influx and acknowledgement that Hispanics are an integral part of their community. In some communities the only business in town are Hispanic business and they find “American Food” on the Mexican Menus since no other restaurants serve basic staples like hamburger and fries.  Predominantly white communities find themselves dying to the point of offering up free land and tax incentives for new residents, to find that  immigrants came to the town looking for something that was similar to their small home towns. With higher birth rates and the desire to live in smaller communities Hispanics are filling the holes left by a younger generation that moves away from their home towns.
